Field Visualisations

Post match summaries showing shot locations, or a player heatmap are fairly commonplace in AFL broadcasts. However, I don't think they are yet used enough in a widespread capacity, particularly considering how effective they can be at communicating interesting and often complex passages of play.

With this in mind, I have had a crack at developing a concept for visualising gameplay events in Australian Football. The main purpose is to attempt to show as many key gameplay events as possible, whilst ensuring that the visualisation remains simple and intuitive. The concept I have designed shows player possession, movement, and disposals. I Intend for this system to be consistent, meaning that each action remains the same in any context.

This design system has a number of applications, such as

    - Visualising live event data (i.e. show all players, show the ball position, show what actions are being performed).

    - Visualise event summaries (e.g. show all events filtered by team / player / event type)
